Chocolate is Good for You?

In honor of Valentine's Day (a little late:), see the link below for more information about the potential health benefits of chocolate. One recent study showed that moderate (a key word) consumption of chocolate may decrease stroke risk. More studies are needed to fully understand this concept.

  1. I think it is great that people can eat chocolate to help prevent stroke and perhaps even reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease! Combining the information presented in this article to the previous article about 25% of stroke patients that die within a year, I think that perhaps these patients should follow the "chocolate method". With 8% of stroke patients having another stroke in that year as well as 50% dying due to another stroke or perhaps even a heart attack in the following 4 years, it may be interesting to see the effect of chocolate on these patients. Perhaps researchers can conduct a study in which they give these recent stroke patients the suggested 6.7 grams of chocolate per day and see if it potentially reduces the risk of another stroke within that year or even cardiovascular disease.

  3. Too bad for me! My favorite is milk chocolate. I will have to try the citrus fruits, onions, green tea, and red wine. For Dark Chocolate lovers this is very good news (except for the moderation part)!!

  4. I have heard before that chocolate does have health benefits but I had no idea that it is being connected with decreasing the risk of stroke. I also have heard a similar thing about a glass of red wine, which the article mentions. People just need to be careful because dark chocolate is definitely better than milk, and as the article states, it is recommended only to have one ounce per day. One ounce really is not a large amount at all. Good news and maybe even a justification for chocolate lovers though!
